Jacklyn Citero

It all started when a much younger Jackie dove into her parents’ record collection, grabbed that trippy Magical Mystery Tour album, and played “Strawberry Fields” over and over again until it was engrained into her soul. She grew up on the dreams and stories of Simon and Garfunkel, “Bleeker Street” being one of her favorites, the seduction of The Doors, Van Morrison, because “Brown Eyed Girl” is definitely her song, and the likes of Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Jimi Hendrix…you get the picture. It may not show on the outside, but Jackie has a hippie heart, and that reflects in her musical tastes today. While some of her favorites may or may not be jam bands, her taste in music feeds into many genres. From alternative, Brit, and indie rock - OK, maybe all rock - to pop, to rap, to electronic, she loves it all. As a northerner, she thought she would never understand country until she found herself on a Georgia farm in cowboy boots watching Luke Bryan shake it for her- yeah, she got that. She is a chronic wanderluster, she doesn't believe in guilty pleasures, enjoys a great Moscow Mule, and is an absolute music festival fanatic- you’ll find her wherever the music takes her.

Artists to Watch: Bonnaroo 2019

Posted on June 6, 2018 by Jacklyn Citero

It’s that time of year again. The time when Bonnaroovians return to The Farm that many call home for 3 or 4 or even 5 nights of Bonnaroo magic.

Whether you’re split on the arguments that Bonnaroo died and lost all that magic years ago, or it will never be the same, or that the festival has become a giant experiential place to be seen…that’s neither here nor there. One thing we can agree on is that music remains at the heart of Bonnaroo.

While this leads to another bonnargument about recent lineups and the strength of these said lineups, we believe there are still many music discoveries to be made in those hot dusty fields in the middle of Manchester, TN.

Check out a few Bonnaroo 2019 artists that made it on our Watch List this year.

ALEX LAHEY
The 24-year-old Australian musician takes her rise up the ranks from music student to ‘an artist with one of the most highly anticipated debut albums of 2017. A founding member of avant poppers Animaux, multi-instrumentalist Lahey has now gone solo and pared down her sound, embracing a simple, home-spun story-telling style that’s often underlined by her second love, the fuzz pedal.

ARLIE
Arlie comes to The Farm from a little town right up the road from Manchester called Nashville. With a combo sound of one of those bedroom pop projects, mixed with retro-fetishist, Beatles-brainwashed, Pet Sounds devotees. Why should you go see Arlie on Thursday night? Because they’re down right good, that’s why.

BAZZI
Grasping smoked-out sensual R&B and widescreen pop sensibilities inside of an eighties-inspired high-fashion fever dream, Michigan-born and Los Angeles-based singer, producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Bazzi wants to take you on a trip.  His latest hit “Mine,” has quickly solidified him as one of 2018’s breakthrough artists. Over a sultry and simmering beat punctuated by the magical pluck of a heart and video game warbles, he croons intoxicating lines like, “You so fucking precious when you smile.” It’s a hard one to get out of your head.

BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE
Broken Social Scene is a baroque indie rock act founded by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning and includes members of Metric, Do Make Say Think, Stars, as well as Grammy-nominated Feist. They are one of the most enduring and influential alternative rock groups to come out of the early-aughts Torontopia movement. The band’s debut You Forgot It In People largely defined the “indie rock” era and paved the way for Canadian acts like Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade to break out. Their most recent album ‘Hug Of Thunder’ was released in 2017 and features appearances by all original members including Leslie Feist, Emily Haines, Jimmy Shaw, and Amy Millan. Produced by legendary Grammy Award-winner Joe Chiccarelli (White Stripes, Spoon, The Strokes) and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Lucius).

DREAMERS
L.A.-via-Brooklyn trio DREAMERS, maybe best known for their national radio hit, the electro-sprinkled pop gem “Sweet Disaster,” and their sound of grungy guitar fuzz bombs, snappy synth-pop grooves and irresistible pop hooks. Just in time for summer and their performance at Roo, DREAMERS released the new single “Screws,” a sensually charged track driven by pounding drumbeats and lyrics that perfectly channel the frenzy of the mental and physical unraveling of a relationship.

JAPANESE BREAKFAST
A solo moniker for Philadelphia musician Michelle Zauner, Japanese Breakfast began as a month-long, song-a-day writing challenge during a break from her indie rock band Little Big League. The result was 2013’s June, an intimate set of melodic, electric guitar-accompanied lo-fi tunes issued on cassette by Ranch Records. Three years later her album Psychopomp had bigger, synth-boosted sounds that bridged lo-fi and indie pop. The album dealt with the emotional fallout of her mother’s death.

MATT MAESON
There’s a rare directness to Matt’s music: he sings like the dead singer-songwriters, full of troubled and tensile grace. His sound is spare and rich and restless. Vines of guitar weave around his voice; half-remembered melodies drift overhead like ghosts. This is the Matt Maeson we now have after Matt Maeson was killed. But who killed Matt Maeson? Maybe the devil, who haunted his parents, two reformed teenage outlaws who played in religious heavy-metal bands and wouldn’t let him listen to rock on the radio. Or maybe it was the volatile spirit that brought Matt to prison the first three hundred times. He played shows with his mom and dad, proprietors of a prison ministry since he was young. The family lived on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, and worked wherever the faithful wouldn’t feel like they belonged. They drove south to Florida and west to Montana, rumbling through maximum-security lockups with fire and benediction, drums and guitars. Matt spent years on the road to prisons and biker rallies: he played songs about salvation in front of strippers and Hell’s Angels at Sturgis, one of the biggest motorcycle rallies in the world. If this description doesn’t make you the bit curious, then you don’t deserve Matt Maeson.

THE NORM
When step-brothers Bryan Rucker and Ryan Bars became family, they realized they had at least one thing in common – music. Born and raised in South Florida, the duo combine their urban roots of hip-hop, rock, and pop to formulate a sound they like to refer to as “hip-rock.” Drawing comparisons to Twenty One Pilots, Macklemore, and Fall Out Boy, the brothers of The Norm most certainly defy the musical “norm.” The dual frontman band currently resides in Athens, GA, (our favorite) where they won the 2017 Flagpole Music Awards Artist of the Year. The Norm has shared the stage with artists such as 311, Shakey Graves, The Revivalists, Moon Taxi, White Denim, Mayday, Arrested Development, and many more. The band most recently won The Road To Roo competition representing the state of Georgia and will be performing at The Bonnaroo Music Festival this Summer.

OLIVER HAZARD
Oliver Hazard is an American indie folk band from Waterville, Ohio. Their music is a ramshackle of uprooted-folk stomp from a chain gang choir of three.

TASH SULTANA
We first caught this young, dynamic artist creating waves and generating massive street buzz at Hangout this year. Tash made a name for herself busking on the streets of Melbourne, selling out shows with no promo and having homemade videos go viral online getting tens of millions of views. Since having her hands wrapped around a guitar at the age of three, the self taught artist quickly developed her own unique style that has people lining up to see her perform. Her vocals shine with a magical quality, Tash has a natural gift for melody and her virtuosic playing of over 20 instruments is from another planet.

THUNDERCAT
As Thundercat, bassist/songwriter/vocalist Stephen Bruner takes his jazz roots and works with a mix of artists that suit his wildly experimental sensibilities – ranging from Flying Lotus, Erykah Badu, and Stanley Clarke, as well as more recent collaborations with Wiz Khalifa and Earl Sweatshirt, to name but a few. His music is known to straddles lines and push genres further, blurring the confines of pop, funk, electronica and prog rock, and creating something else entirely.

Sun Seeker Tour Diary + Interview: Shaky Knees 2017

Full. Chill. Mode. Three words that could describe Sun Seeker’s afternoon Shaky Knees set, our hang with these guys, their time enjoying the fest, and (last but not least) their music. Alex Benick (Vocals/Guitar),  Asher Horton (Bass), Ben Parks (Drums), and Rodrigo Avenda (Keyboard) took some time to have a chat with us about what they have coming up this summer. Read all the details below and check out Sun Seeker’s Tour Diary from when they took one of our disposable cameras for a wild behind the scenes ride.

Vinyl Mag: Hey guys, so this is your first time at Shaky Knees?

Sun Seeker: It is! We love it. And to me it’s the best festival lineup of the summer.

VM: We definitely can agree on that. You guys just played today and had an awesome afternoon set. Is there anyone in particular you’re looking forward to seeing?

SS: We really enjoyed Courtney Barnett, David Byrne, Fleet Foxes yesterday. We’re excited about Parquet Courts, War on Drugs, we like Alvvays a lot. There’s just so much to remember…Also Post Animal tonight late night.

VM: I know you are about to start working on a new album…

SS: We are recording it in our hometown. I don’t know all the details I can share at this moment, but we can say that yes we are starting to record this summer.

VM: Do you have any other summer plans?

SS: That is all we’re really wanting to do and focus on that. We have some scattered festivals but it’s really that. We’ve been demoing a lot, Alex has been composing songs, and we have all been getting together a lot to write parts and figuring stuff out. That’s a really good head space for us to be in so we’re just going to be focusing for awhile.

VM: Well, we are looking forward to hearing what comes next from you guys. When it comes to your sound as a band, I’ve read quite a few times your music being called “Cosmic Americanna.” I did recently also read that you never stated that your music be labeled as such. So, in three words or less how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?

SS: Chill, pretty, music. I’ll use music as one of the words to avoid any sort of confusion. It is music. Or at least what we know to be. You can get really conceptual about it. It could be spoken word.

Self aware earnestness.

We came for the whole weekend to just play the day. We are in full chill mode. Just like our music: Full. Chill. Mode.

Shaky Beats 2018: Filling the Void

Posted on May 24, 2018 by Jacklyn Citero

Marshmello_3

In its third edition, Shaky Beats earns its place as one of this year’s EDM destinations. Over three days, the festival shook up Atlanta’s Central Park with artists including Kygo, Marshmello, Zedd, Excision, Dillion Francis, Seven Lions, and hometown favorite Ludacris.

The move to Central Park took the festival out of concrete midtown Atlanta and provided a more lush festival feel. With a more expansive landscape, the park provided  enough room for two main stages that were never in competition with one another, a tented space, and additional shaded smaller stage on the other end of the grounds.

Shaky Knees provided much to see off of the stacked lineup, and much to do with all off the interactive activations spread around the festival. While we were kept entertained from the moment we walked through the gates, there are a few performances that top our highlight list of the weekend.

Kygo4

Kygo is many things – world-renowned producer, songwriter, DJ, music marvel, international sensation, and the best performance of Shaky Beats 2018. At festivals some artists have typical “festival sets.” Others just perform. But then you have those acts that put on a show. Kygo’s festival close out was exactly that. His set combined live performances, collaborative singers and live string section, with his electronic prowess. Shaky Beats was Kygo’s last stop on his Kids In Love Tour.

Zedd_2

It seems like everything that Zedd touches turns to gold, or shall we say platinum. Saturday’s closing headliner brought the dance party Saturday night with mashups of his major hits and drops of sing-a-long classic favorites. The musical variety within his performance stays true to Zedd’s theme and history of experimenting with and having an appreciation for different musical styles.

ShibaSan_3

Inspired by the sounds of Chicago house, Shiba San takes his production experience in the French hip-hop scene and infuses it with the essence of house. Best known for his tracks “Okay” and “Burn Like Fire,” Shiba San his far from a two hit club wonder. He lets his music and sets do the talking for him and that was evident when he packed out the shaded smaller stage at Shaky Beats.

Other notables from the weekend included Dillon Francis, TroyBoi, Seven Lions, Excision, and Louis the Child.

Over the past three years, Shaky Beats has built up a favorable reputation. Not only has the festival begun to fill the electronic void of those Georgia EDM festivals that have come and gone, but it has quickly become a fan favorite. Already counting down to Shaky Beats 2019.

Artists to Watch: Hangout 2018

Posted on May 17, 2018May 17, 2018 by Jacklyn Citero

Hangout

It’s about that time of year where we find ourselves on the beaches of Gulf Shores soaking in every minute of Hangout. This year’s festival, once again, boasts a varietal lineup. From heavy hitters Kendrick Lamar and The Killers to the up and coming, this beach party has a little bit of everything for everyone. Here’s a shoutout to a few artists we’ve been keeping an eye on and look forward to seeing this weekend at Hangout ’18.

BAHAMAS
Afie Jurvanen is Bahamas. And (self stated) his new album Earthtones is his best yet. In his own words, Jurvanen shares that his latest work is a very positive album about having a joie de vivre for the joys of life.

GRETA VAN FLEET
No that isn’t quite Led Zeppelin you’re hearing. With an eerily close resemblance to those English rockers, Greta Van Fleet has been making it known that rock-n-roll is alive and well. With inspiration drawn from the likes of Cream, the Yardbirds, The Who and other 60s British favorites, this young and ambitious rock quartet (three of which are brothers) are quickly on their way to achieve greatness and creativity far reaching beyond their ages.  Greta Van Fleet’s debut EP Black Smoke Rising, sees the band straddling the line between timeless and future, sounding at once like many things you’ve heard before and also something you’ve never heard before. Their sound is anthemic, loud, and captivating – you don’t want to miss them on Sunday at Hangout.

NONAME
Chicago rapper and poet Noname (formerly Noname Gypsy) brings an observant eye and quiet patience to a soulful R&B-meets-hip-hop style influenced by Lauryn Hill, Andre 3000, and Buddy Guy. Born Fatimah Warner in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, Noname frequented open-mike nights and slam poetry competitions when she wasn’t volunteering with the local YOUMedia arts program. Befriending fellow Chicagoan Chance the Rapper proved fortuitous: she appeared on “Lost” from Chance’s Acid Rap mixtape in 2013, helping her gain a wider audience. Before her debut, she contributed to Mont Jake’s Shadow EP and “Finish Line/Drown” on Chance’s 2016 hit Coloring Book. Three years in the making, her first album, Telefone, arrived in the summer of 2016. The coming-of-age blend of soul vocals, atmospheric textures, and Noname’s spoken-word featured production by Chance associate Cam O’bi, Phoelix, Saba, Monte Booker, and Them People.

SHALLOU
Maryland-born producer shallou catapulted from relative obscurity to prominence by way of his debut All Becomes Okay EP (2017). Since 2014 Joe Boston has been writing/producing bright yet melancholy electro pop under the name shallou. With his new Souls EP out last month, shallou explores the cycle of love through summery yet solemn vibes, focusing on two people as they come together and break apart again.

SUNFLOWER BEAN
With a guitar core, classic rock-inspired roots, Brooklyn’s indie rock trio Sunflower Bean has earned much deserved attention over the past few years for their alternately rock-edge and dreamy sound. The band was formed in early 2013 by Nick Kivlen (guitar/vocals) and Jacob Faber (drums) while they were still in high school. Julia Cumming’s (bass/vocals) addition later in August 2013 would further expand and complete the band’s lineup. The release of Twentytwo in Blue this past March showcases how far the band has come since playing together in their high school days, but also how the band is still evolving and creating their sound.

TANK AND THE BANGAS
Their name is familiar and it’s familiar for a very good reason. We were first introduced to Tank And The Bangas in early 2017 when video of their victorious performance at NPR’s headquarters (after their unanimous win of this year’s Tiny Desk Contest) went viral. Rummaging through their sound like a thrift store hippie, you’ll find the Bangas to provoke a musical reference of Rhythmic Soul and Spoken word among other genres such as Rock, Gospel, Funk, and Folk. Combining the various musical technique among the Bangas, coupled with the instilling play on lyrics from the lead vocalist; Tank and The Bangas have quilted a unique sound that singles them as one of the most distinctive groups to come out of New Orleans.

Looking Ahead…Imagine 2018

It’s never too early to start looking ahead. While we just closed out the 2017 festival season, we’re already starting to plan for 2018. And trust us, it will be here sooner than we know it.

One festival that’s already on our radar for next year is Imagine. 2017 marked the fourth edition of the immersive aquatic fairytale and the second year the festival called Atlanta Motor Speedway home. For three days this past September, Imagine transformed the Speedway’s pavement into an all-encompassing, 360-degree sensory experience that blended some of the best electronic sets we had seen all summer, circus troupes, performers, dancers, and art.

Upon entering the venue, you were first met by the Disco Inferno Stage. Created by Incendia, the geodesic massive structure featured a spellbinding fire and flame effect that coincided with the music. This stage and the environment it produced not only was our favorite stage of the entire weekend, but many other attendees’ favorite as well.

imagine2 copy

The two largest stages, Oceania and Amazonia, were each housed on opposing end of the Speedway. At Oceania we indulged under Tiesto’s fireworks, got down to some Liquid Stranger, and basked in Sunday’s sunset during Illenium. It was at Amazonia where we celebrated some of the best festival sets we had seen all summer. From a throwback and hard hitting Pretty Lights set, to a funkin good time with The Floozies, to a Sunday Funday with STS9, Amazonia enthralled us all weekend.

imagine6 copy2

This year proved that not only is Imagine (rightfully) the region’s largest independent EDM camping festival, but it just might be one of the best. While there may be a few more months until we get the 2018 lineup, you may want to jump on the special customer appreciation tickets while they’re still available – less than 12 hours remain on these prices. It is with certainty that Imagine will keep attracting some of the industry’s biggest talent, and with 2018 being the festival’s fifth anniversary you won’t want to miss out on what is to come.

Video Premiere: Maitland – “Luna”

Posted on October 26, 2017October 27, 2017 by Jacklyn Citero

Philadelphia indie folk rock group Maitland follows up the June released of their debut full length Glimpse with the ethereal music video for track “Luna.”

“Although the song plays like a love song, ‘Luna’ has a bit of a deeper message, touching on the frailty of our environment and the world’s infatuation with endless consumption,” says the band of the video.  “There are sort of three ‘mindsets’ that we were trying to convey through the video; one: vulnerability, suffocation, and the need to escape something, two: the dreamlike satisfaction of taking advantage of the world we live in, three: the search for something greater than the physical experience of life.”

Without the haunting yet beautiful imagery of video, the track itself expresses its message through artfully crafted poetic lyricism.

“Lyrically, the chorus is a mantra of sorts, chanting about a finite spring that everyone needs to drink from.,” says the band of the track.  “Unless we only take what we need (and no more), we’ll run dry. As a few people search for a fleeting fulfillment, taking more than their share, others are left with the final drops. But there’s room for rebuilding, and it takes a village.  These words also point at a holy spring. The source from which all life comes into being. This spring will never run dry and will always offer what is required in order to rebuild the individual, the community, and the world.”

Check out the premiere of “Luna” below.

For those in the Philly area on November 9, head over to Johnny Brenda‘s to catch the band live with Square Peg Round Hole and Abi Reimold.

Never Miss a Hulaween

Posted on October 20, 2017 by Jacklyn Citero

Night2-9a

Never miss a Hulaween….and we mean it.

A weekend at Suwannee Hulaween is something to be experienced. Over the past five years, Hulaween has morphed into a world class festival and one of the best Halloween parties around. The festival offers a wide-reaching and ever-evolving lineup year after year. Hulaween’s superb live/jam and electronic music will be the soundtrack to a fully immersive creative journey over three, or maybe four, days.

Many may not realize the concept for this spectacular Halloween extravaganza reaches far beyond the first Suwannee Hulaween that took place at Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in 2013. A history spanning nearly two decades of The String Cheese Incident’s legendary Halloween “Incidents” has helped create the magical masterpiece that Hulaween is today. Over the years as SCI’s popularity grew, so did their stage presence and so did the “Incidents.” Spectacle elements, various eye and mind psychedelia aspects, and audience participatory activities were added to these special and larger “Incidents,” such as Halloween — which became Hulaween due to the band’s early connection with the hooping movement. So it’s no wonder that new and veteran attendees will find themselves entranced by SCI as they play host to their flagship festival and play all three nights, including a unique Halloween themed covers set.

In addition to SCI’s magical enchantment over the festival and a stellar lineup — The Disco Biscuits, Greensky Bluegrass, and Lettuce, electronic giants like Bassnectar, GRiZ, RL Grime, Claude VonStroke, Beats Antique, FKJ, Shiba San, and Manic Focus, globally renowned headlining live acts like Ween, Run The Jewels, Portugal. The Man, Nick Murphy (Chet Faker), Nathaniel Rateliff, and many more — there are a few other elements of Hulaween that help make this beloved festival so unique and special.

SPIRIT OF SUWANNEE MUSIC PARK – The venue itself is naturally perfect for a Halloween festival. Set in the midst of 800-acres of Spanish moss-draped oak and cypress along the black Suwannee River, the grounds are an organic host to hauntingly beautiful memories and ghoulish shenanigans. You can undoubtedly feel the magic of this place.

SPIRIT LAKE – Spirit Lake is the artistic triumph of Hulaween’s fully immersive inventive playground. This focal point continues to define the multi-faceted Suwannee voyage. Psychedelic media arts, otherworldly lighting design, and bewitching projections will lure attendees deeper into the wooded lakeside oasis where they may encounter live performers and of course costumed fans embedded into this wildly collaborative passage. Swing on the tentacles of a jellyfish, get lost in a swamp ball pit, warm up near a mythical beast spitting fire, or daydream in a teepee. Whatever you choose, the adventure is yours in Spirit Lake.

Night2-10a

HULAFAM – Hulaween doesn’t just have attendees. It has a community of like-minded individuals where new friends and old become family. Sometimes you attend a festival where you can feel how special the weekends and moments are, Hulaween is one of those festivals. Spirt of Suwannee is a place where you can abandon the worldly grind and summon your inner child to come out and play. Inhibitions, judgements, and preconceptions dissolve away with every smile and hug exchanged with strangers who will quickly becomes your new best friends.

The String Cheese Incident 10.30.15
The String Cheese Incident 10.30.15

THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT’S HALLOWEEN THEMED SET – Year after year, The String Cheese Incident delights and excites attendees with their annual themed extravaganza. This year SCI will be playing to the theme Night of the Loving Dead on Saturday night for their highly anticipated set. In a world devilishly assaulted by ferocious natural disasters, crazed political discourse, and other sinister attacks, love is the only kryptonite that can stop these invaders in their tracks. SCI invites all to bust out their zombie garb, cupid outfits or whatever else suits attendees’ Halloween desires. Their only requirement is that you inject whatever you wear with a ghoulish portion of LOVE. In 2017, love is the answer, love wins.

Hulaween 2017 Playlist

Posted on October 19, 2017 by Jacklyn Citero

In case you haven’t heard by now, Hulaween 2017 is officially sold out. In it’s fifth year, this year’s Hulaween will not disappoint. So while all you ghouls prepare for next weekend’s festivities, we’ve created a soundtrack for your packing and costume making. See you in the swamp!

10 Artists Not To Miss at Hulaween

Posted on October 5, 2017October 5, 2017 by Jacklyn Citero
Pretty Lights 10.30.15
Pretty Lights 10.30.15

October. The month of the PSL, Halloween, sweater weather, Instagram worthy fall adventures, and of course, Hulaween.

Celebrating its fifth year, Suwannee Hulaween will offer a wide-reaching offering of live/jam and electronic music’s finest to soundtrack a fully immersive creative journey. New and veteran attendees will find themselves entranced by The String Cheese Incident (who remain at the helm of Hulaween – their flagship festival), The Disco Biscuits, Greensky Bluegrass, and Lettuce, being blown away electronic giants like Bassnectar, GRiZ, RL Grime, Claude VonStroke, Beats Antique, FKJ, Shiba San, and Manic Focus, or being treated to globally renowned headlining live acts like Ween, Run The Jewels, Portugal. The Man, Nick Murphy (Chet Faker), Nathaniel Rateliff, and many more.

As we countdown to Hulaween, here are ten artists that should be on your Hulaween radar. We have a good feeling their sets will be all treats…no tricks here folks.

BIG SOMETHING
Six piece powerhouse BIG Something fuses elements of rock, pop, funk, and improvisation to take listeners on a journey through a myriad of musical styles. Soaring guitars, synths, horns and alluring vocal hooks rise to the top of their infectious collection of songs and represent a sound that has caught the ears of Galactic, moe., Robert Randolph, and even The B52s who have all tapped Big Something as direct support. BIG Something dropped their 4th full-length studio album, Tumbleweed, this past February.

GRIZ
GRiZ is one of those artists that radiates loves and is a shining beacon of positivity in an unsettled world. The multi faceted electronic funk and soul musician cuts no corners with his production or live performances. Channelling authentic horn lines and catchy saxophone riffs with an awe inspiring live performance to match. GRiZ’s latest release “Good Will Prevail” debuted at #1 on the electronic charts and while always being available for Free Download, it was released through his own self-funded imprint “All Good Records”. “Show Love, Spread Love” in the name of GRiZ.

KEYS N KRATES
Keys N Krates first grabbed our attention a few years back at a Madison House SXSW party. Their energetic and bass powered set proved that Keys N Krates was and is not just any standard EDM act. Needless to say, we were impressed. Their breakthrough singles – the elastic loops and diamond-edged drums of “Dum Dee Dum,” the head rush hooks of “Treat Me Right,” a frantic, D’n’B-flavored “Are We Faded” – are able to pull the strings of packed festival crowds without resorting to tired EDM tropes. Hip-hop, house and UK bass music all play a role in their live sets.

MARIAN HILL
Hip-hop, blues harmonies, drums, bass, horns, classic vocal melodies, soloistic vocal chops, and intimate lyrics. This is what you get with Marian Hill. The Brooklyn-duo’s one of a kind sound doesn’t disappoint. Their music is moody and while you may have never heard their one of a kind sound before, it all feels surprisingly familiar.

NICK MURPHY
In 2016, Nick Murphy killed Chet Faker. In the beginning, Chet Faker was a project for Murphy. This project soon turned into almost half a decade of playing music under the Chet Faker moniker and building a cult following that worshiped the downtempo, atmospheric electronica sound. Last year the Australian pop phenomenon decided to release the Chet Faker name and create new material and perform under his real name, Nick Murphy. You may recognize him and his distinctive sound and work with notables Flume, Banks, and Marcus Marr.

PERPETUAL GROOVE
Georgia’s Perpetual Groove is an absolute fan favorite. Since returning from a two-year hiatus, the Athens, GA, based band has come back stronger and more determined than ever. Over the years their music has evolved into a genre-bending, highly original sound that touches upon jazz-rock, neo-psychedelia, R&B, trance electronica, progressive rock, and anthemic arena rock. Their large catalog of original music offers something for everyone, but the band is also known for their eclectic range of covers. Last month it was announced that the band is planning to release a new album, their first in seven years – check out their new album campaign here. We have nothing but absolute love for these guys and we highly encourage you not missing them at this year’s Hulaween.

PORTUGAL. THE MAN
2017 has been a big year for Portugal. The Man with a new album and some heavy touring. The release of the new album, Woodstock (their first new album in three years), shows a new-found creative voice for the band. A voice speaking out about the world crumbling around them. Their mega-hit “Feel It Still” continues to play over the airwaves and stays steady on the charts.

SPAFFORD
As of late, Spafford seems to be all the buzz on the current jam scene. The four piece funk rock act hailing from Phoenix, AZ, has a sound rooted in deep sonic exploration with a focus on improvisational elements. A focus on blending genres with a deep foundation of patient groove building has helped craft a sound all their own. Formed in 2012 by happenstance, the band has been building an organic fanbase in the Southwestern United States through word of mouth ever since. The secret of Spafford is finally out and don’t miss your chance to see them.

STOKESWOOD
If you’re looking for eclecticism and high energy performances, look no further than Atlanta’s own Stokeswood. Known to switch instruments between songs, they eschew limits on influences. From Atlanta’s hip-hop beats to indie-rock melodies, their sound shimmers with futuristic thrum, thick with static, driving percussion and swirling high notes. Their songs range between (rightfully) earning their place on the dance floors as well as on that most personal of gestures: the mix tape.

THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT’S NIGHT OF THE LOVING DEAD THEMED SET

Year after year, The String Cheese Incident delights and excites attendees with their annual themed extravaganza.

To get a taste of what we’ll be experiencing, check out SCI’s themed set from last year:
